about time

I am glad that I finally got to the cinema and caught the romantic comedy involving some science fiction on time travel.

Yes, the idea of time travel sounds like the perfect supernatural power to have when we could just turn back the clock whenever something goes wrong, or doesn't go the way we planned so that we always have that second, third or more chance to make things right. It is almost like the 'undo' button which means we can always go back and do it again. If we have that kind of supernatural ability, I am sure that most of us would already have dozens of things on our list that we wished we could undo, go back in time and get that second chance. A second chance to make things different or better. All of us yearn for that second chance at some point in our lives... at work, in relationships or decisions that we make in our daily lives.

Imagine if we have the ability to turn things around and do them differently, whenever and whichever we want, I somehow found this ability kind of tiring or terrifying too. Tiring because it means that we would have to repeat doing things over and over again until we get the results that we want. Terrifying not only because we would be quite a freak to be able to do something like that but also how we would be able to manipulate situations to get the things we want.

In a way, there is a beauty about the passing of time or lost time or what people call 'history'.

The fact that we can't turn back time, redo something that is already done or relive a moment that has been lost, makes every moment even more special and worth cherishing for. Knowing that we have only got one chance for everything, makes us more real even if we fumble or screw things up. It is those feelings of frustration, disappointment, sadness or anger that makes everyone who they are.

I love how the film eventually plays the emotions of kinship on the protagonist and how he wanted to go back in time to spend more time with his dying father. A chance that everyone of us yearns for when we know that we are going to lose someone we love. And he was only given that one last chance to revisit his time with his father. For most of us, we don't have another chance with our loved ones. Our one chance is the every day or moment we spend with our loved ones.

The one thing I agree strongly with is that...  we should all go through each day like it is our second chance so that we can see things in a different light. A second chance so that we can learn to enjoy the moment rather than getting ourselves caught in a constant state of unnecessary worry, panic or stress which wouldn't have changed anything anyway.

We should live each day as if it is that second chance to make things better, for us or the people around us... because the truth is that we only have one chance or one time to make things worthwhile.

quite a long thought, sets me thinking too, the 'undo button', without watching the movie (yet).
