nothing measures up to the first
Hoping to relive some nostalgic moments from watching "The Lake House", I plunked myself onto the couch on a saturday night like a girl whom has just fallen out of love and wanted to find back that reason to love again, or rather just a girl who wants to find a reason to love. It ended up quite disappointing as all sentiments were lost. It was not quite like the first time when I watched the show.
Human sentiments stretch like a bad elastic band. Once tugged, it can never get back to the same as the original form.
It was like the first time we were really touched, really sad or really happy. It happened for once. Only once.
Thereafter, no matter how much we tried to seek back the same feeling, we just couldn't. It was just not the same.
Noone can hurt you quite like the first. Noone can touch you as much as the first.
Probably it was as explained in science, humans learn from experience and gained a kind of immunity - defensive mechanism to prevent oneself from getting hurt again. But how about the positive sentiments? Does the defensive part of us reacted so strongly that we are also depriving ourselves of the chance to find a deeper happiness?
Nothing can quite compare to the first. To have felt it, to have experienced it for the first... and also for the last.
